The Belief Shift: Rewriting the Story in Your Mind

By Elizabeth Meigs | Transformational Coach & Founder of Elizabeth Inspires, Creator of the Pathway to PEACE™ Method, & The Roadmap to Resilience™

I’ve noticed a pattern in people who are outwardly successful but inwardly struggling.

They’ve survived life’s hardest moments—burnout, loss, disappointment, trauma—yet they don’t feel empowered.

They wake up and push through the day, doing what needs to be done, while a quiet voice in their mind whispers:

“You’re a failure.”
“You’re too much.”
“You’re not enough.”

That voice becomes so familiar, it starts to feel like truth. But here’s what I’ve learned—not just from coaching others, but from walking through my own recovery, pain, and to now have stepped into my purpose:

Those voices aren’t truth.
They’re residue
Residue from rejection, fear, and unhealed experiences that still echo in the background.

Over time, we internalize the external voices around us—what others said, how they treated us, what we came to believe in our lowest moments.

And if we don’t interrupt and replace those voices with truth, they begin to run our lives—quietly shaping our choices, dimming our confidence, and distancing us from who we were created to be

Harnessing the Power of Belief to Transform Your Life

So let’s go deeper—because surface advice like “just be confident” isn’t enough.

Why do we stop believing in ourselves?

It’s not because we’re weak.
It’s because somewhere along the way, we learned to attach our worth to performance.

We internalized the lie that our identity is based on:

  • how much we give,

  • how little we need,

  • or how perfectly we hold it all together.

When we don’t measure up, the mind fills in the gaps with shame.

In my own life, it wasn’t until I cried out to God—in the most broken moment of my healing—that I heard a different voice.
Not one of condemnation.
But one that said:
“I have a plan for you. You can't stop. You have to keep going.”

That voice became my anchor.
And it's what I now teach others to tune into.

You don’t need more hustle. You need healing. And belief is where it begins.

Belief is not a motivational cliché.

It is a discipline.
A spiritual weapon.
A rewiring of the soul.

Belief says:
“I will no longer let lies define me.”
“I will partner with the truth that sets me free.”

When belief becomes your foundation, resilience becomes your rhythm.

The Belief Reset

Here’s how you begin:

  1. Name the Lie – What’s the recurring voice in your head that tears you down?

    • Write it out. Get it in the open.

  2. Replace It with Truth – Use faith-fueled affirmations like:

    • “I am chosen.”

    • “I am growing stronger every day.”

    • “I may be healing, but I am not broken.”

  3. Be Mindfully Present – Stop letting autopilot run the show.
    When doubt shows up, pause.
    Breathe. Reflect. Reframe.

  4. Surround Yourself with Believers – You’re not meant to walk this path alone.
Join my Facebook community of women reclaiming their joy and rising in purpose.

  5. Practice Daily Wins – Belief is built in small choices.

    • Speak kindly to yourself.

    • Set one boundary.

    • Celebrate one step forward.

I Believe in You (Until You Believe in Yourself Again)

I know what it feels like to forget who you are.
But I also know what happens when you remember.

You don’t need to be perfect.
You just need to be willing.
Willing to question the old voice…
…and choose a new one.

So here’s my invitation:

Let me walk with you.
